Characteristics of the 4 levels of the professional maturity scale

Professional maturity is a set of characteristics related to professional experience. An employee's maturity levels are not related to their age but to their knowledge mastery and performance in the workplace. The four levels of an employee’s maturity are defined as:

M1 - baby

Regardless of age and length of experience, the professional who has just joined the company or is very new to a particular role requires more guidance. In this case, the leader's role is to teach the company's culture and how everything works, acting as a caring manager.

M2 - child

At this level of maturity, the employee will increase their knowledge of the company and acquire technical skills, even though they still lack autonomy. The professional is beginning to walk on their own but still requires close supervision. For the manager, it is important to avoid old habits and act as a coach.

M3 - adolescent

Now the professional is able to perform their tasks independently and has more autonomy, as they have already developed their technical skills better. Here, the manager's role is to provide support when the employee needs it and allow them space to start acting more independently.

M4 - adult

At this level of maturity, the professional has the technical skills and maturity to make decisions when facing challenges and problems, as well as the ability to define task priorities. In this case, the leader's role is that of a mentor manager, who, in addition to occasional follow-ups, welcomes suggested innovations and process improvement suggestions.

By implementing this professional maturity process, the company will be able to develop a team of independent professionals, capable of facing intelligent challenges and generating more productivity for the company.
